1,100 Bomb Threats Noted in a Day in Slovakia

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia: Schools and educational institutions including banks received over 1,100 bomb threats on Tuesday, triggering evacuations across the country, said the police adding that an inquiry has been launched.

Rastislav Polakovic, the deputy chief of police said the act is being investigated as a serious crime of terrorist attack.

He said emails started arriving at schools on Tuesday from five or six in the morning adding that almost 1,000 of the bomb threats were against schools and more than 100 of them were received by banks.

The police on its official Facebook page said they are working at full speed, checking security at schools and trying to identify the culprits.

Perpetrators could be imprisoned for life for their acts.

The spokeswoman for the Bratislava self-governing region, Lucia Forman, told media that the European country had registered bomb threats in dozens of schools it runs.

She said that the relevant authorities had taken all the necessary steps, the children were evacuated and the police were dealing with the matter.
