KANO: At least 12 loggers were killed in Borno state of Nigeria when their vehicle struck a landmine near the border with Cameroon on Monday. The explosion took place as the loggers were en route to collect firewood. The vehicle, a flat-bed truck, rolled over a suspected mine on the highway outside Pulka village.

Reports from two non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working in the region, shared with AFP, highlighted the circumstances surrounding the incident. Both accounts confirmed the toll of 12 fatalities, with another report noting that seven loggers sustained injuries, three of whom are in critical condition and have been evacuated to Maiduguri for further medical attention.

One of the reports stated, “Men suspected to be Boko Haram… planted explosive… and killed 12 people while many were injured along Pulka to Gwoza route.”

Security forces in Nigeria have yet to confirm the details of the blast, and there has been no official response to requests for confirmation. Villagers in the affected area, fearing violence, have sought refuge in Gwoza and Pulka, living in camps under military protection.
