17 dead, 50 injured as Pilgrims’ Truck Plunges into Ravine in Hub

HUB: At least 17 people were killed and over 50 wounded after a truck carrying pilgrims fell into a ravine in Balochistan fourth largest city Hub, on Wednesday.

According to local media quoting sources as saying the pilgrims, hailing from Sindh’s Thatta, were going to Shah Noorani shrine to pay their respects when the unfortunate incident took place.

Police and locals are making attempts to rescue those who are stuck in the ravine while rescue teams are shifting wounded and dead bodies to the hospitals.

Sources said pilgrims with critical conditions will be moved to hospitals in Karachi for treatment.

DPO Hub says the tragic accident was the outcome of fast and reckless driving. Chief Minister of Balochistan Sarfaraz Bugti has issued directives for providing the injured with best medical facilities.

He condoled with the bereaved families. An emergency has been imposed on Jam Qadir Hospital to ensure timely treatment to the wounded.

Edhi officials confirmed that 30 ambulances have been sent to the site of the accident.

Soon after the incident, rescue teams rushed to the site to help the victims.

The injured were moved to nearby hospitals, while the deceased were shifted to hospitals for identification purposes.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has also expressed deep regret over the unfortunate incident, extending condolences to the grieving families.
