GAZA: Gaza’s Health Ministry said on Saturday that at least 17,700 Palestinians have been killed and more than 48,780 injured in Israeli brutal attacks in the Gaza Strip since October 7.
Ashraf Al-Qidra, spokesperson for Gaza Health Ministry, said that in recent hours 2 paramedics were injured when Israeli troops targeted an ambulance while it was working to evacuate injured patients from European hospital in Gaza. He condemned Israel’s war against health centers and hospitals, medical teams and ambulances.
The development comes as the US on Friday vetoed a UNSC resolution that would have called for an immediate truce in the intense war in Gaza. Washington exercising its veto dashes a rising appeal for an immediate truce that had been led by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and regional countries.
War in Gaza
As a permanent UNSC member, the US vetoed resolution, while the UK, also a member, abstained on the vote on resolution. Earlier, several attempts to adopt a resolution calling for a permanent truce were vetoed. The UN said around 80 percent of the population of Gaza has been displaced, facing shortages of fuel, food, medicine, and water along with the threat of disease.
Palestinian UN Representative Riyad Mansour expressed disappointment over ceasefire resolution failure at UNSC. He said, “It is disastrous.” The envoy maintained that the UNSC was again prevented from rising to this moment to uphold its clear duties and responsibilities in the face of this grave conflict threatening human lives, regional and global security and peace.
Mansoor said that instead of permitting the UNSC to uphold its mandate by finally making a clear call following two months of butcheries that the atrocities must stop, the war criminals are given additional time to continue them. He questioned, “How can this be justified?”
