MADINAH: The Prophet’s Mosque has witnessed an increase in the number of worshippers during the first two-thirds of Ramadan, with over 21 million people attending, according to Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, the President of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques.

This figure represents a 49 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Since the start of the month of Muharram this year, the total number of worshippers has reached more than 169 million, Al-Sudais said.

Speaking about the preparations made by the General Presidency, Al-Sudais stated that all necessary arrangements had been made at the mosque to support the worshippers and visitors to perform their rituals with ease and comfort.

The mosque’s administration has taken several measures to ensure the safety of worshippers, including regular disinfection of the premises and the provision of hand sanitizers at various points within the mosque. The administration has also distributed face masks to worshippers who do not have one.

The mosque’s administration has provided free meals to worshippers during iftar and sehr times. The meals are distributed through the mosque’s charity organization, which has set up several food distribution points within the mosque.

The General Presidency has also increased the number of staff members at the mosque to ensure that worshippers receive adequate support and assistance during their visit. This includes the deployment of translators to assist non-Arabic-speaking visitors.

The mosque’s administration has called on worshippers to adhere to the precautionary steps and instructions issued by the authorities to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
