GAZA:  Israeli air and drone strikes have killed three people in the Nuseirat refugee camp and two people in Gaza City, bringing the number of Palestinians killed in Gaza to at least 34, Arab media reported.

Gaza Health Ministry said that more than 34,488 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli brutal strikes in Gaza since October 7. It added that over 77,643 injured including women and children in Israeli strikes on Gaza.

The new death reported amid ceasefire talks in the region. A senior official of Hamas told Arab media that stopping the strikes against Palestinian people is not generous. He said that the UK and the US urge Palestinian people to accept an Israeli offer of a 40-day break in fighting over demands for a permanent truce in the Gaza Strip.

On the other hand, the number of student protesters apprehended across the United States has surpassed 900 since police in New York removed a pro-Palestinian protest encampment at Columbia University. According to Associated Press more than 100 demonstrators have been arrested by the police on April 18.

Reacting over the development, Mary Lawlor, the UN special rapporteur on human rights defenders, has termed as “disturbing” news reports that students at Columbia University could be suspended for denying to end their Gaza solidarity encampment.

Lawlor stated that it is a complete violation of students right to peaceful assembly. Columbia University students have denied to end their protest demonstration until the university responds to their demands, which include stripping from firms profiting from Israel’s war on Gaza.
