CHICAGO: Muslim leaders of the #AbandonBiden drive have said that the movement to bar Biden’s re-election due to his denial to support a truce to end the killing of innocent Palestinians in the Gaza Strip was “growing rapidly and will not turn back. They were addressing at one of the country’s largest gatherings of Muslim Americans in Chicago, local media reported on Sunday.

The #AbandonBiden campaign news conference took place during the three-day annual convention hosted by the Islamic Circle of North America and the Muslim American Society at Chicago’s McCormick Convention Center. The convention attracts over 25,000 attendees each year and addresses a range of matters improving social services, health care, and community activism.

#AbandonBiden Drive Builds Support

Earlier, Muslim leaders announced that they are launching a campaign with an effort to discourage voters from reelecting Joe Biden in 2024 polls due to his complete failure to call for a truce in the Gaza Strip.

The #AbandonBiden campaign formally began earlier in December, led by Muslim leaders in swing states like Minnesota, Arizona, and Michigan, who disapproved of Joe Biden’s support for Israel’s attacks against Gazans. Israel’s attacks have come at the cost of tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians’ lives. Now, Muslim leaders intend to expand the pressure drive to all fifty states in the US.

In a statement, lead organizer Jaylani Hussein said that they would save the US from itself by punishing Joe Biden at the ballot box. Joe Biden’s campaign did not immediately issue any statement over the matter.

The coalition plans to ratify an independent presidential candidate, Hussein added. He said that the drive does not support Donald Trump, though it is aware of the dangers of reducing Joe Biden’s voter base. Hussein said that there is a chance that their votes may weaken the Democrats that the Republicans may win the elections. He added that the #AbandonBiden campaign is ready to take that danger. Muslim-Americans in battlefield states, who helped win Joe Biden his tinny margin of win in 2020, have said they would instead vote for a third-party candidate or not vote this time.

On Friday, Biden bypassed Congress for the second time this month to approve $147.5 million in emergency military aid to Israel.
