ADB Reaffirms Continued Support to Pakistan

TIBLISI, Georgia: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has reiterated its commitment to support Pakistan, as affirmed by ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa during a meeting with a Pakistani delegation led by Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema in Tbilisi, Georgia.

President Asakawa expressed trust in Pakistan’s reform agenda and praised the government’s efforts in implementing tough stabilization measures to achieve macroeconomic stability.

He assured Pakistan of ADB’s continued support in various areas including Public Private Partnership, climate and disaster resilience enhancement, Domestic Resource Mobilization, promoting Women Inclusive Finance, and Energy Sector reforms.

Minister Cheema urged ADB to allocate additional resources towards high-impact interventions, particularly focusing on climate actions in vulnerable countries.

During the business session of ADB’s Board of Governors, Minister Cheema highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to a comprehensive program aimed at unlocking the country’s economic growth potential. He noted improvements in inflation and some recovery in economic growth, indicating that the economy is on a consolidation path.

Additionally, Minister Cheema held meetings with senior leadership from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and European Investment Bank to discuss ongoing development portfolios in Pakistan and priority areas for future support. He also met with bilateral development partners including the UK, Germany, and USA to enhance cooperation in key areas such as digitalization of the taxation system, energy infrastructure, and climate change.
