DOHA: Indonesia clinched a commanding 4-1 victory over Jordan on Sunday at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha, securing their spot in the quarterfinals of the 2024 AFC U-23 Asian Cup. This win places Indonesia second in Group A, trailing behind the already-qualified hosts Qatar, who settled for a goalless draw against Australia on the same day at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium in Al-Rayyan.

The tournament, scheduled until May 3, serves as a gateway to the men’s football event at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Indonesia dominated the first half, leading 2-0 at halftime courtesy of Marcelino Ferdinan’s penalty at the 23rd-minute mark and Witan Sulaeman’s goal just before halftime.

Ferdinan extended the lead to 3-0 at the 70-minute mark, with Jordan managing a consolation goal through an own goal from Justin Hubner nine minutes later. Komang Teguh sealed the deal with Indonesia’s fourth goal, leaving only four minutes on the clock.

Additionally, Monday will mark the conclusion of Group B, where South Korea and Japan, both already assured of progress, will compete. The UAE and China will play their match with no points between them, making it a dead rubber encounter.
