Afghanistan’s Exports Surge to $1.7 Billion in 2023, Dominated by Fruits and Carpets

KABUL: Afghanistan’s exports for the current year have reached $1.717 billion, according to a statement released by the Taliban administration on Monday. The statement, issued by the office of the Taliban’s deputy chief minister, outlined the country’s export composition, highlighting a diverse range of products such as fruits, dried fruits, carpets, saffron, coal, and vegetables.

A significant 97% of Afghanistan’s exports have found their way to key destinations, including Iran, Pakistan, India, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, China, and Kazakhstan, as indicated by the official statement. This marks a noteworthy shift in the country’s export dynamics and reflects a growing international demand for Afghan goods.

Afghanistan’s Exports Witness Substantial Increase

Comparing the data with previous years, online sources indicate that exports in Afghanistan witnessed a substantial increase, rising to $1.837 billion in 2022 from $1.05 billion in 2021. The surge in export figures is indicative of a positive trend in Afghanistan’s economic landscape, demonstrating resilience amid challenging circumstances.

Over the years, Afghanistan’s export performance has experienced fluctuations. The data reveals that exports averaged $537.54 million from 2000 until 2022. The year 2022 marked a record high of $1.837 billion, while 2002 saw a record low of $69.10 million, reflecting the complex economic trajectory the country has navigated.
