Alert: People Close to Sutlej River Asked to Shift to Safer Places

BAHAWALPUR: The district management of Bahawalpur has issued a warning for residents living close to the banks of the river to move to safe regions in response to the substantial warning from the area Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) regarding the medium to high floods in the Sutlej River.

Based on information and hydro-meteorological conditions, the Flood Forecast Division and the Pakistan Meteorological Department warned of a medium to high flood on the Sutlej River near Ganda Singh Wala and downstream on Saturday. The district government of Bahawalpur has asked residents in regions close to the banks of the Sutlej River to relocate to safe areas.

According to a warning from the Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Office, people who live in locations close to the Sutlej River should leave their homes as soon as possible and move to safe areas.

In light of the medium to high flood in the Sutlej River, the assistant commissioner of Hasilpur Tehsil in the Bahawalpur district has advised residents in the communities of Pala, Gahi Behrma, Luddan, Noorpur, Aaqil Pur, Khairo Ghazi Khanana, Chohan, and Naseerpur among others to relocate to safer regions. Meanwhile, according to Zaheer Anwar Jappa, deputy commissioner of Bahawalpur, plans have been made to handle any emergencies brought on by the Sutlej River’s high floodwaters.

Rescue 1122’s team has also been instructed to be on high alert to give rescue and relief services to persons as needed. —APP
