SINGAPORE: Amazon said on Tuesday it would invest $9 billion in Singapore over the next four years, to expand its cloud computing capabilities in the city.

This substantial investment represents a doubling of Amazon’s previous commitment to the city-state and underscores its commitment to meeting the increasing demand for cloud services and embracing artificial intelligence technologies.

In a statement, the tech giant stated, “AWS (Amazon Web Services) is significantly increasing its investments in cloud infrastructure in Singapore from 2024 to 2028 to accommodate customer demand and contribute to reinforcing Singapore’s position as a desirable regional hub for innovation.”

The decision to bolster its presence in Singapore comes on the heels of Amazon’s robust financial performance in the first quarter of 2024, where the company reported a tripling of profits driven by the success of its cloud services, advertising, and retail operations.   — AFP/APP
