ANP Breaks Barriers: Transgender Included in Central Cabinet

PESHAWAR: In a historic move, Pakistan has seen the inclusion of a transgender individual in the central cabinet of a political party for the first time.

During a meeting focused on intra-party elections organized by the Awami National Party at the Bacha Khan Center, the formation of the entire cabinet was agreed upon by consensus. Among the appointments, Dr. Mehrub Moiz Awan a transgender, was included in the central cabinet.

Dr. Mehrub holds a master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Washington, USA, and an MBBS degree from Khyber Medical University, Peshawar.

Currently, Dr. Mehrub serves as the Director of Policy and Gender at Gender Interactive Alliance, with previous experience working at the World Bank and various hospitals.

Dr. Mehrub Moiz Awan has no brothers but has six sisters, all of whom are doctors. Speaking to a private news channel, Dr. Mehrib expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of their parents, attributing much of their success to this support.

Dr. Mehrub Moiz Awan highlighted their excitement and hopefulness about taking on responsibilities within the Awami National Party.

Notably, Dr. Mehrub emphasized that the Awami National Party stands for equal rights and progressivism, making it her party of choice to enter the political arena. This move marks a significant step forward in promoting inclusivity and diversity in Pakistani politics.
