WASHINGTON: Apple is likely to be hit by a ban on its App Store rules and regulations that govern some music-streaming services and a possible heavy fine from European Union (EU) regulators, Bloomberg News claimed on Wednesday.

European Union authorities are putting the finishing touches to a conclusion that would forbid Apple’s practice of hindering music services from pushing their users away from App Store to another subscription choices, the report added.

The pronouncement is slated for early next year and Apple might face a fine of as much as 10 percent of its annual sales, the news report maintained.

The investigation was sparked by a complaint around four years ago from Sweden’s Spotify Technology, which made a claim it was forced to ramp up the value of its monthly subscriptions to cover costs linked with Apple’s App Store regulations.

The EU Commission also filed a chargesheet against the firm earlier in the current year, adding the conditions are not necessary and mean customers may end up paying additional charges.

However, Apple did not respond to the news report for comment. Similarly, a spokesperson from the European Commission also declined to comment over the matter.
