OTTAWA: Under the chairmanship of His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Ministerial Committee assigned by the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit convened with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on December 9, 2023. Comprising the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the State of Palestine, Riad Malki, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, Hakan Fidan, the committee addressed the alarming developments in the Gaza Strip.

The committee members emphasized the pressing need for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to alleviate the impact of military aggression on unarmed civilians and restore security and stability. They called upon the international community to intervene promptly, halting the continuous violations of international law by Israeli occupation forces and ensuring compliance with international humanitarian law.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the Security Council’s failure to adopt a resolution for a ceasefire, the committee stressed the urgency of establishing relief corridors to facilitate the delivery of essential humanitarian, food, and medical aid to the Gaza Strip. Additionally, the members demanded that the international community take responsibility for promoting a comprehensive and just peace.

The committee reiterated the necessity of creating favorable political conditions leading to the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the borders of June 4, 1967, in accordance with relevant international resolutions. They rejected any attempts to compartmentalize the Palestinian issue and underscored the importance of addressing the Gaza Strip within the broader context of the overall Palestinian matter.

This diplomatic initiative reflects the committee’s commitment to resolving the crisis in Gaza and advocating for a sustainable and equitable peace in the region.
