Arab League Chief Discusses Gaza with British Minister in Cairo

LONDON: Secretary-General of Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit on Thursday met with the British minister of state for the Middle East and North Africa, Lord Tariq Ahmad, in Cairo and discussed the war in Gaza.

His spokesperson Gamal Roshdy said the Arab League chief thanked the UK for its vote in favor of a UN Security Council resolution demanding a ceasefire in the Palestinian territory.

The secretary-general also called for a speedy implementation of the resolution on the ground to stop the Israeli military offensive, and stressed the necessity of immediate humanitarian aid access to Gaza to alleviate the dire crisis and famine in the area.

Roshdy went on to say that Aboul Gheit underscored the significance of unified diplomatic efforts, to capitalize the UN Security Council’s resolution focused at achieving stability and pathway toward the establishment of the state of Palestine.

Lord Tariq Ahmad stressed the need to enact the UN resolution and deliver assistance to Gaza through land routes.

The British minister, who is making his third official visit to Egypt since war between Israel and Hamas started on October 7, held a meeting with the Egyptian foreign minister, Sameh Shoukry, to discuss ways to work together to ensure lifesaving aid reach Palestinians in Gaza.

Ahmad in a message posted on social media platform X, said that during the meeting discussed the need for full implementation of the UN Security Council resolution to get more lifesaving assistance into Gaza.
