Arab League Chief Welcomes Humanitarian Truce in Gaza

CAIRO: Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit has welcomed the success of the Egyptian-Qatari mediation in reaching an agreement to implement a humanitarian truce in Gaza and to exchange prisoners and hostages between the two parties, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Wednesday.

According to the SPA, Aboul Gheit expressed aspirations that the announced ceasefire would lead to a full truce in Gaza and an end to the Israeli aggression against the civilian population in Gaza.

The SPA reported that the Secretary-General of Arab League emphasized that the brutal Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip does not represent a path to achieving security but rather increases the chance of violence in the future. Aboul Gheit also affirmed the significance of a comprehensive political settlement to the Palestinian cause that is based on the visions of the two countries, as it remains the only way out of the recurrent of violence in the region.
