Arif Alvi Lauds General Bajwa Services for Country

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday held separate farewell meetings with President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday. During the meeting, President Alvi commended General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s services in the field of defense.

He lauded the outgoing Army Chief’s services to the country and the Pakistan Army. He expressed best wishes for General Qamar Bajwa in his future endeavors.

COAS and Shehbaz Sharif meeting

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) also attended a farewell meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday. The change of command ceremony of the Pakistan Army is going to be held at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi tomorrow (Tuesday).

The outgoing Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa will hand over the command stick to the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir during the ceremony, Radio Pakistan reported on Monday. 

It may be recalled that General Asim Munir will be the 17th chief of army staff to assume the command of the Pakistan Army. Sixteen Army Chiefs had performed their services for the country since 1947. 

The 1st Commander-in-Chief of Pakistan General Frank Messervy served from August 1947 to February 1948.  The 2nd chief of Pakistan’s Army General Douglas Gracey performed his duty from February 1948 to January 1951.

Field Marshal Ayub Khan, General Muhammad Musa, General Yahya Khan, General Gul Hassan Khan, General Tikka Khan, General Ziaul Haq, General Mirza Aslam Beg, General Asif Nawaz, General Waheed Kakar, General Jehangir Karamat, General Pervez Musharraf, General Ashfaq Parvaz Kayani, and General Raheel Sharif served as Army Chief of the country’s Army. General Qamar Javed Bajwa was appointed on November 2016 as 16th Army Chief of the country and he is going to retire on November 29.
