YEREVAN: Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers are scheduled to engage in peace talks in Berlin this week, aiming to address the longstanding conflict between the two nations over the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

The upcoming meeting, set for February 28-29, was announced by Armenian foreign ministry spokeswoman Ani Badalyan via social media. It follows an agreement reached during trilateral talks in Munich, facilitated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, where Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev had dialogue.

Armenia and Azerbaijan Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

Confirming the meeting, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that he would meet with his Armenian counterpart, Ararat Mirzoyan, in the coming days.

The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan centers around the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which Azerbaijan regained control of in September following decades of separatist rule by Armenian forces.

Amidst heightened tensions, concerns exist in Yerevan that Azerbaijan may attempt to expand its territory into Armenian land, particularly to establish a land bridge to its Nakhichevan enclave.

Despite previous discussions between Pashinyan and Aliyev suggesting the potential for a peace agreement by the end of last year, mediated negotiations have yet to achieve a breakthrough.
