Staff Report
PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has installed artificial intelligence (AI) based devices in schools to observe students’ and teachers’ live attendance.

This step was taken due to the increased number of complaints about the absence of teachers. Zarif-ul-Mani, Managing Director (MD) of the Elementary Schools Education Foundation (ESEF), said that the Artificial intelligent-based attendance system in the foundation schools would maintain the quality of education and help enhance students’ performance.

He further explained that the School Management Information System (SMIS) would ensure quality and accountability.

E-governance unit’s initiative

He praised the Elementary and Secondary Education Foundation’s e-governance unit for redeveloping this initiative, as it previously suffered from mismanagement. The project would also discourage dropout rates as it will ensure that the teachers are present and classes begin on time.

Earlier, the Sindh government also took strict action against ghost teachers who are involved in receiving their salaries without coming to school and fulfilling their duties.

As per reports, the provincial education department has blocked the payment of more than 2,000 ghost teachers across the province.
