At Least Six Killed in Nashville School Shooting

NASHVILLE: At least six people, including three children and three adults, were killed, and the gunman was reported dead after a shooting at a private Christian school in Nashville, Tennessee, on Monday morning, local officials said.

The shooting incident happened at The Covenant School. The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department stated in a tweet that the suspect was dead but didn’t specify exactly what led to the death. The police department did not specify whether the suspect was male or female.

“An active shooter event has occurred at Covenant School, Covenant Presbyterian Church, on Burton Hills Dr,” Nashville Police tweeted. “The shooter was engaged by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department and is dead. Student reunification with parents is at Woodmont Baptist Church.” Police have yet to publicly identify the shooter or the victims.

The incident began just before 10:30 a.m. when officers received a call about a shooter at the Covenant School.

According to a White House official, US President Joe Biden has been briefed on the Nashville school shooting.

The Nashville Fire Department tweeted that it responded to the scene and there were “several patients.” The department did not say if any victims were killed or how many may have been injured.

Founded in 2001, the Covenant School is a ministry of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Nashville with around 200 students, according to the school’s website. The school serves preschool through sixth graders and held an active shooter training program in 2022, WTVF-TV reported.
