BERLIN: Austrian Airlines, the last west European airline flying to Iran, has said it was suspending all flights from Vienna to Tehran until April 18 in response to escalating tensions in the region.
Earlier in the day, Austria government followed Germany in urging its citizens to leave Iran.
Austrian continued to operate longer than its German parent, Lufthansa, because Vienna’s proximity to Tehran meant it could more easily cancel flights or have to leave staff overnight in Tehran.
Austrian Airlines in a statement said that routes that pass through Iranian air space will also be modified adding that the safety of the passengers and crews have highest priority.
