Authorities Vow to Ensure Quality of Food Items

PESHAWAR: In order to ensure the quality of food items in the market, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority on Friday seized and discarded 6000kg of incorrectly labelled cooking oil and 800 litres of contaminated milk during raids in the different parts of the province.

The carried-out actions in Nowshera and Hangu districts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The authority’s spokesperson said that a team from the Food Authority conducted inspections at cooking oil wholesalers and distributors in Jahangira, district Nowshera. The team successfully retrieved about 6,000 kilograms of mislabelled cooking oil from various brands and proceeded to seal a warehouse.

Simultaneously, an inspection team operating in district Hangu discovered and discarded 800 liters of adulterated milk. The team took further action by sealing the implicated shop and imposing a fine on the vendor.

People asked the authorities to take more strict actions against those traders, who violated laws and regulations regarding foods. The citizens also expressed anger over the price hike in the province and demanded that the district administration should also take steps to control the prices of the food items in the area.  Similarly, commuters said that the fare of the transport has not been reduced despite cut in the petroleum prices and asked the authorities in the transport departments to look into the matter.
