ISLAMABAD: Dr. Babar Awan, lawyer of Senator Azam Swati on Tuesday told the Islamabad High Court that more than 50 FIRs were registered of the same incidence against his client in various police stations across the country.

Chief Justice IHC, Justice Aamer Farooq heard a petition filed by Azam Swati against registring cases against him by the Federal Investigation Agency at different police stations. During the hearing, Swati’s lawyer Dr. Baber Awan said most of the cases were filed in Sindh and Balochistan as, he added, that Swati was in Islamabad police custody on physical remand. He beseeched the court to direct the interior secretary to stop shifting Swati from Islamabad to any other part of the country.

Awan said the Interior Secretary had got control over the IGs Police so the court could direct him in this regard. The court wondered how Interior Secretary could direct the provincial police inspector generals. The court asked the Deputy Attorney General to get instructions from Secretary Interior in this regard. The court also directed the DAG to make an inquiry into the claim that provincial chiefs were under the interior secretary’s control.
