Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan Records Surge in Trade, Stress Cooperation in Cross-Sector Projects

TASHKENT: Azerbaijan’s Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov has called on Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev here in Tashkent on Thursday. Mikayil Jabbarov is on an official visit to Uzbekistan to attend the Tashkent International Investment Forum.

The Uzbek presidential press service. Stated that they explored avenues to strengthen the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, emphasizing the importance of implementing previously agreed-upon initiatives during the meeting.

Mirziyoyev highlighted the significant growth in bilateral trade, noting a 27% increase in 2023 and a further 15% rise since the beginning of the current year.

Both parties expressed satisfaction with the successful execution of joint projects spanning various sectors, including automotive manufacturing, energy, agriculture, electrical engineering, textiles, and tourism. They underscored the necessity of expanding the project portfolio, with a particular focus on leveraging resources from a joint investment company.

Additionally, plans for the upcoming meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission and the second Forum of the Regions between the two countries were discussed, aiming to meticulously outline the economic agenda for future high-level engagements.

Mirziyoyev and Jabbarov also exchanged perspectives on regional cooperation and welcomed the outcomes of a recent meeting involving the economy and energy ministers of Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan, held the preceding day.
