ISLAMABAD: The application process for the upcoming Hajj pilgrimage in 2024 has commenced, with 89,605 slots available under the government scheme.

According to the details announced by the Ministry of Religious Affairs spokesperson, an additional 25,000 seats will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis through the sponsorship program.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs announced that applications for the official scheme will be accepted until December 12 at 15 designated banks. The submission deadline for applications using valid Pakistani passports is December 16, and tokens for those without passports are also accepted.

Notably, this year marks a significant change, as women will be permitted to undertake the Hajj without a mehram, a male companion previously required. The sponsorship scheme allocates 25,000 seats on a first-come, first-served basis, while a lottery system will be applied to applications received under the regular Hajj scheme. To cater to international applicants, those residing abroad must submit their applications along with dollars.

Prioritizing family bonds, the Religious Affairs Ministry has introduced an exemption from the lottery for applicants and their dependents, fostering a collective spiritual journey for families and close relatives.

The revised Hajj policy accommodates individuals under the age of 10 to fulfill their pilgrimage obligation. Additionally, private schemes now have flexibility in providing service personnel for pilgrims over 80 years old, acknowledging the diverse needs of the pilgrim demographic.

In a commitment to enhance the welfare of pilgrims during their stay in Saudi Arabia, organizers are mandated to enter agreements with pilgrims, guaranteeing the provision of local assistance services. Any breach of these contractual obligations may result in penalties and the blacklisting of the Hajj organizer, underscoring the government’s dedication to pilgrim safety and support.

The Hajj application can be downloaded from the religious affairs website.
