WASHINGTON:  Biden’s administration is set to miss Wednesday’s deadline to report to US Congress on whether Israel is using US-provided arms to violate global humanitarian law in the Gaza Strip, Reuters reported.

Reuters citied four sources as saying that Biden issued a National Security Memorandum in February, requiring the State Department to report to US Congress by May 8 over the credibility of Israel’s assurances that its use of US arms has not violated international and US law.

Sources told Reuters that Biden’s administration had apprised congressional committees that it hoped to provide its findings within days, but it would not make Wednesday’s deadline.

Earlier, four State Department bureaus had submitted internal memos to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken raising grave concern over non-compliance with global humanitarian law during Israel’s prosecution of its war on Gaza.

More than 34,789 people including women and children have been killed in brutal Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7, Gaza Health Ministry said. It added that more than 78,204 people have been wounded in Israeli attacks on Gaza.
