Boxer Amir Khan Receives Honorary Captain Rank from Pakistan Army

ISLAMABAD: Renowned boxer Amir Khan was conferred with the honorary rank of captain for a day by the Pakistan Army, acknowledging his remarkable contributions to the sport of boxing.
In a statement issued on Saturday, it was said that Pakistan boasts a wealth of talent and dedication among its youth in various sporting disciplines. Many young athletes have proudly represented the nation on the international stage, bringing home accolades and honors.

The Pakistan Army has consistently encouraged people who excel in their respective fields, reflecting its commitment to fostering excellence across all spheres of life. In recognition of his outstanding achievements, Amir Khan was conferred the esteemed rank of honorary captain during a prestigious ceremony, where army officers ceremoniously pinned the captain’s badges on him.

A former world light-welterweight champion, Amir Khan has amassed a string of accomplishments throughout his illustrious career. He clinched a silver medal in the lightweight category at the 2004 Olympics at the tender age of 17.

Expressing gratitude upon receiving the honorary captaincy, Amir Khan remarked, “The Pakistan Army has always been instrumental in promoting sports, and I am immensely proud to be honored in this manner today.” He likened the sense of pride he felt donning the military uniform and rank to the exhilaration of becoming a world champion.

Emphasizing his unwavering support for the Pakistan Army, Amir Khan reiterated his commitment to furthering the cause of sports in the country. He pledged to establish more boxing academies in Pakistan to nurture young talent and expressed optimism about Pakistan’s future success in international sporting events, including the Commonwealth and Olympics.
“I also met Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir and grateful to the Pakistan Army for honoring me”, he concluded.
