Brazil’s First Lady Says Social Media Account Hacked

BRASLIA: Brazil’s first lady, Rosangela “Janja” Lula Silva has denounced a “hateful attack” after her social media account was hacked to post a series of misogynistic messages, leading police to open a probe, Western media reported on Tuesday.

Rosangela “Janja” Lula Silva said that the disrespectful and hateful assaults she suffered daily have reached a new level, saying her X account was hacked. She maintained that violent messages were also posted against her on the account.

Ms Silva’s account was hacked Monday night, when her account on X posted several roughly derogatory posts apparently meant to mock the first lady and her husband. She has 1.2 million followers on her social media account.

The president of Brazil likewise denounced the assault and said that they could not tolerate more incidents like this against women, the prime victims of online crimes. Police official said they had asked X to block Ms Silva’s social media account and opened a probe of the “offensive” posts.

In a statement the first lady said that women across the country are the victims of misogynistic assaults, which flood social networks and frequently overflow beyond them, leading to physical assaults. Several of female cabinet members of Brazil expressed their solidarity on social media, including Indigenous Affairs Minister Sonia Guajajara and Environment Minister Marina Silva.
