LONDON: Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani said on Thursday that the 1.6 million British Pakistanis were an asset for the country as they were playing an important role in developing bilateral ties between the two countries.
He said that Pakistan and the United Kingdom (UK) were good friends and close partners, and the friendship between the two nations was based on common values, heritage, and mutual goodwill.
He was speaking at a reception jointly arranged by the government of Pakistan and the British Council in honor of the delegates attending the Commonwealth youth ministers meeting held in London.
The reception was attended by the youth ministers of the commonwealth member nations, representatives of different organizations, and a number of Pakistani community members.
The foreign minister lauded the Commonwealth secretariat, Secretary General Patricia Scotland and its team.
He also expressed his gratitude for the British Council and the UK government for cooperating Pakistan to successfully organize the event.
