Budget 2023-24: Benazir Income Support Programme’s Fund Increased to Rs400b

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar unveiled the federal budget 2023-24 in the National Assembly on Friday, announcing to increase the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) fund to Rs.400 billion.

Under BISP, 9300000 families would be provided with Rs8750 after every three months. Government allocated Rs346 billion for the purpose.

The Benazir Educational Scholarships Programme would be expanded from 6 million to 8.3 million students. 52% of the students benefitting from the programme would be girls. An amount of Rs.55 billion has been allocated for it.

92000 students would be provided with Benazir Undergraduate Scholarship and a sum of Rs.6 billion is reserved for the purpose.

The government also decided to continue the Benazir Nashounuma Programme in all the districts in the country, and the number of the children in net would be increased to 1500000. A sum of Rs32 billion is allocated for this purpose.

The targeted subsidy on flour, rice, sugar, peas, and ghee would be provided to the needy people and an amount of Rs35 billion has been allocated for it.
