WASHINGTON: OpenAI, the firm behind the ChatGPT, sacked its Chief Executive Office and founder, Sam Altman, on Friday. His fabulous exit sent shockwaves across the Artificial Intelligence industry.
The firm, in a statement, stated an internal probe found that Sam Altman was not always truthful with the board of the company.
“Sam Altman’s exit follows a deliberative review process by the board of the company, which concluded that he was not reliably truthful in his interaction with the board, impeding its capability to exercise its tasks,” the firm said in its statement. “The board of the firm no longer has complete confidence in his capability to continue leading OpenAI.”
OpenAI said that Mira Murati, the firm’s chief technology officer, will serve as interim Chief Executive Officer until a permanent CEO is chosen.

The news story follows OpenAI’s 1st developer conference organized in San Francisco last week, which Sam Altman also attended and unveiled a series of new AI tool updates, including the ability for developers to set up custom versions of ChatGPT. He also shared regarding 2 million developers now use the platform, and regarding 90% of Fortune 500 firms are using the tools internally.
ChatGPT introduced late last year, making Sam Altman an overnight quasi-celebrity and the face of a new AI tools that can generate texts and images in reply to simple user prompts.
Sam Altman was also one of several tech Chief Executive Officers to meet with US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris this year to emphasize the significance of ethical and responsible Artificial Intelligence development.
