Chilam Josh Festival to Begin on May 13 in Kalash

PESHAWAR: The five-day famous Chilam Josh festival, a religious and cultural festival of Kalash Valley, would begin on May 13 in district Chitral, wherein male and female populations of Rambor, Bamborait and Berar valleys would participate with zeal and fervour.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority had issued necessary instructions and directions to the relevant officials and district departments for the provision of the required facilities for domestic and foreign tourists who would attend the festival.

According to the spokesman of the Culture and Tourism department, it has been decided to organize the festival in a grand manner this year adding that locals from Kalash renovate their houses and other places in their villages on the very first day of the festival followed by local women celebrating the ritual of serving milk on the second day.

Significance of Chilam Josh Festival

Meanwhile, like the previous years, traditional dance events would be held on the 3rd day (May 15) as a welcome gesture for the newborn babies.

The events of cultural dances and other traditional rituals would continue on May 16 whereas the Chilam Joshi festival fair would conclude the event in the Barrier Valley on May 17.

Every year the Chilam Josh festival attracts worldwide attention, where local and foreign tourists rush towards the valley to enjoy the colourful events and festival.

the provincial Tourism Authority had decided to open camping pods in Kalash Valley to attract more tourists with the provision of other basic facilities including deployment of Tourism Police for security duty during the event.

The tourists could also access any required information from Tourism Helpline 1422 before visiting Chitral, where the tourists’ facility centres at Derapar and Chitral Lower would remain open during the festival days.
