China Reaffirms Support for Pakistan’s Counterterrorism Efforts

BEIJING: China has assured its support for Pakistan’s efforts in countering terrorism and pledges to offer necessary assistance in the investigation of the Dasu terrorist attack.

Addressing a regular press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin on Tuesday affirmed China’s unwavering backing of Pakistan’s anti-terrorism measures, particularly in light of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s commitment to ensuring foolproof security for Chinese nationals working on the Dasu Hydropower Project and throughout the nation. Shehbaz Sharif also vowed exemplary punishment for the perpetrators of the March 26 attack.

Since the incident, Wang noted, China has maintained close communication with Pakistan, emphasizing the importance of Pakistan’s thorough investigation and unwavering efforts to bring the culprits to justice. Additionally, he urged Pakistan to take all necessary steps to safeguard the safety and security of Chinese personnel, projects, and institutions within the country.

Wang Wenbin reiterated China’s firm commitment to protecting the safety and security of its nationals, projects, and institutions abroad. He affirmed China’s readiness to provide Pakistan with requisite assistance in the investigation and assured that the perpetrators of the attack would face consequences.

Following the attack on March 26 in the Bisham area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Shangla district, where five Chinese engineers and their Pakistani driver lost their lives, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the Dasu hydropower project to assess the situation firsthand.
