BEIJING: China’s National Meteorological Center on Sunday morning renewed a yellow alert for rainstorms as heavy downpours are likely to lash parts of the country.

From 8 a.m. Sunday to 8 a.m. Monday, heavy rains are forecasted to hit parts of Hong Kong, Macao, Guangxi, Guangdong, Hainan, Taiwan, and Sichuan, the meteorological center said.

Some parts of the aforementioned regions may experience heavy rainfalls, with maximum hourly precipitation surpassing eighty millimeters, accompanied by strong convective weather, including gales and thunderstorms, according to Xinhua.

The center has advised local administrations to prepare for rainstorms and asked traffic management officials to implement appropriate traffic control steps on road sections hit by heavy downpours.

It has recommended disconnecting outdoor power supplies at risk, the temporary suspension of outdoor operations in open parts and the relocation of people from vulnerable parts to safer locations.

The center has also urged for carrying out checks on drainage systems of cities, fishponds, and farmlands, along with the implementation of necessary steps to enhance drainage as required.
