BEIJING: China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment has announced plans to accelerate the development of a state-of-the-art eco-environment monitoring system.

According to Pei Xiaofei, a ministry spokesperson, China boasts the world’s largest and most comprehensive network for monitoring the eco-environment. Currently, the country oversees 33,000 monitoring sites, showcasing significant enhancements in monitoring quality, efficiency, technological prowess, and regulatory oversight.

To expedite the establishment of this modern monitoring system, China will address weaknesses in monitoring and establish sector-specific standards. Moreover, efforts will focus on enhancing analytical and forecasting capabilities while extending monitoring coverage from mountainous regions to maritime territories.

Emphasizing technological innovation and regulatory measures, the ministry aims to complete the system’s construction by 2035, positioning China’s eco-environment monitoring capabilities at a globally advanced level.
