China to Continue Cooperation with Pakistan on High-Yield Hybrid Rice

ISLAMABAD: Zhao Shiren, Chinese Consul General in Pakistan, said on Wednesday that China will continue its support and cooperation in modern joint research with Pakistan for evolving the best quality and more varieties of high-yield rice.

Consul General Shiren expressed the views in a meeting with Pakistan Hi Tech Hybrid Seed Association Shahzad Ali Malik, during his visit to Guard Agricultural Research and Services.

He stressed the need for further consolidating cooperation in the agriculture sector and starting more joint research ventures on the modern and scientific lines to increase yield for acre in Pakistan.

He offered Pakistan to take advantage of the Chinses private sector’s achievements in the field of agriculture as there was a vast scope in the sector.

Zhao Shiren said that China feels proud of the success of Guard Agricultural Research and Services which evolved the first hybrid rice seed with the collaboration of its Chinese counterpart Longping Hi Tech Industry.

Heat-tolerant extra-long grain rice

Speaking on the occasion, Shahzad Ali Malik said that Guard Agricultural Research and Services is the pioneer of introducing hybrid rice in the country.

It developed a new extra-long grain rice that was heat tolerant.

He added that the company was working to bring such seeds into the market, having ability to solidify food security in the country. –APP
