China Witnessed More Coordinated Regional Development Over Past Decade, Report

BEIJING: The regional development of China has been more coordinated and balanced over the past decade, the State Council said in a report on Tuesday.

Last year, central China’s GDP was 26.7 trillion yuan (about 3.7 trillion dollars), with its share of the national GDP rising to 22.1% from 21.3% in 2012, said the report submitted to the the Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress for deliberation.

In 2022, western China’s GDP was 25.7 trillion yuan, and it took 21.4% of the national GDP, up from 19.6% in 2012, Xinhua reported.

Basic public services in China

China has also witnessed more balanced provision of basic public services, with access to infrastructure becoming more equal, the gaps in the basic livelihood guarantee shrinking, and regional opening-up is increasing further, said the report.

The report also noted the problems and difficulties facing regional coordination such as the lack of vitality in economic prosperity in northern regions, as well as the tough task of adjusting the productive forces’ distribution.

The report stressed that efforts should be made to fully implement big regional strategies and foster the impetus of development, promote the construction of important functional areas to ensure the security of grain, energy, and ecology as well as further expand institutional opening-up.
