‘CID’ Actor Dinesh Phadnis dies at 57

MUMBAI: ‘CID’ actor Dinesh Phadnis died today (Tuesday), confirmed his ‘CID’ co-star Dayanand Shetty.

He was 57 years old. He was on ventilator support after suffering from extensive liver damage. According to reports, Dinesh Phadnis died at 12:08 am in Mumbai’s Tunga Hospital. He suffered from multiple organ failures and was removed from the ventilator last night.

He was hospitalised on December 1. Dayanand Shetty, who shared screen space with Dinesh in ‘CID’, had been sharing updates about Phadnis’s health since then. As per various media reports, the 57-year-old actor was admitted to the hospital and was receiving treatment.

Phadnis gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of the character Fredericks in ‘CID.’

The news of the much-loved actor battling for his life was first reported by IWM Buzz, stating, “Dinesh Phadnis has been battling for life, with ventilator support.”

Phadnis played the character of Fredericks in ‘CID’ from 1998 to 2018, earning immense affection from the audience for his sweet and honest nature.

The entire crew and cast of the ‘CID’ were informed about Dinesh’s health condition Friday night, and many of them visited the hospital on Saturday to inquire about the actor’s well-being.

‘CID’, launched in 1997, stood out as one of the pioneering crime-based dramas on Indian television channels.

The show featured a group cast, including Shivaji Satam, Aditya Srivastava, Dayanand Shetty, Ashwini Kalsekar, Janvi Chheda Gopalia, Hrishikesh Pandey, Ashutosh Gowariker, Shraddha Musale, and others.
