CMs of Punjab, Sindh to be Elected Today

KARACHI/ LAHORE: Sindh and Punjab assemblies will elect chief ministers today, local media reported on Monday.

Punjab is likely to elect the first ever female chief minister in Pakistan’s history in form of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s (PML-N) Maryam Nawaz as voting for the Chief Minister slot will take place in Punjab Assembly today. While, Sindh Assembly will choose the new leader of the house as PPP has nominated Syed Murad Ali Shah, as its candidate for the slot of CM Sindh.

PML-N parliamentary leader Maryam Nawaz Sharif has a support of around 225 lawmakers in the House and the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) has fielded Rana Aftab Ahmad Khan.

In behalf of Maryam Nawaz, MPAs Mian Yawar Zaman, Ayub Gadhi, Khawaja Imran Nazir and Mian Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman submitted the nomination papers whereas SIC candidate Rana Aftab himself filed his nomination papers.

Maryam Nawaz got elected from two seats of Lahore including PP-159 and NA 119 and she retained the provincial assembly seat.
