NEW YORK: American comedian Ramy Youssef, known for his hit show “Ramy,” seized the spotlight during a Saturday Night Live (SNL) broadcast on NBC with a powerful plea for the liberation of Palestine. Youssef, of Egyptian origin, used his platform to urge an end to the suffering in Gaza, eliciting a standing ovation from the audience.

During his monologue, Youssef recounted receiving a call from his friend Ahmed, who implored him to pray for his family in Gaza. Moved by the request, Youssef issued a heartfelt appeal, stating, “Please liberate the people of Palestine, please. Please release the hostages, all hostages please,” prompting a powerful response from the SNL crowd.

Meanwhile, Pope Francis echoed similar sentiments in his Easter address, renewing calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the release of all captives held in the region. Addressing a packed St. Peter’s Square, Francis emphasized the need for humanitarian aid access and lamented the profound suffering witnessed, particularly among children, in conflict zones.

“How much suffering we see in the eyes of children,” Francis remarked, expressing the poignant questions posed by innocent victims of war. He underscored the senselessness of violence and the urgent need for peace, emphasizing that war always results in defeat and absurdity.
