JOHN’S: The Cricket West Indies (CWI) Women’s Selection committee has announced the 15-member squad for the tour to Pakistan in April-May. The eight-match series comprises five T20 Internationals (T20Is) and three One Day Internationals (ODIs).
The squad, led by captain Hayley Matthews and vice-captain Shemaine Campbelle, includes several new faces alongside experienced players.
Kate Wilmott earns her maiden call-up to the senior team, showcasing promising performances with her right-arm medium pace during recent domestic tournaments. Additionally, Qiana Joseph and Chedean Nation, both displaying commendable performances, have been recalled to the squad after missing out on the last tour to Australia in 2023.
Ann Browne-John, Lead Selector for Women’s cricket, emphasized the importance of the upcoming series as the team returns to international competition after a six-month hiatus. The series, comprising three T20 Internationals (T20Is) and three One Day Internationals (ODIs), will provide crucial preparation for the team ahead of the T20 World Cup later this year.
Following the ODI series, a thrilling five-match T20I series is set to take place from April 26 to May 3, offering fans exciting cricket action while allowing both teams to fine-tune their skills and strategies ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
The West Indies Women’s team will convene in Dubai from April 6 for a one-week training camp to prepare for the tour. The schedule includes rigorous training sessions to ensure the team is well-prepared for the challenges posed by the Pakistani side.
The tour kicks off with the first ODI on April 18 at the National Bank Stadium (NBS) in Karachi, followed by two more ODIs. Subsequently, the T20I series will commence on April 26, also at the NBS in Karachi, concluding with the fifth T20I on May 3.
