CSTO Discusses Military Cooperation: Report

MOSCOW: The Military Committee on Military Cooperation Development among the CSTO Member States held its 23rd meeting via videoconference. The meeting was presided over by Army General Valery Gerasimov, the First Deputy Minister of Defence of Russia and Chairman of the Military Committee. Lieutenant General of Aviation Nurlan Karbenov presented Kazakhstan’s proposed priority areas for CSTO activities during its chairmanship in 2024 and measures for their implementation.

Discussions during the meeting centered on challenges and threats to military security in CSTO collective security regions.  Colonel General Andrei Serdyukov presented plans for joint training of CSTO control bodies and forces in 2024 and outlined measures for 2025.

Attending the session were Major General Viktor Gulevich, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Belarus; Lieutenant General of Aviation Nurlan Karbenov, First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Major General Ruslan Mukambetov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Kyrgyz Republic; Lieutenant General Emomali Sobirzoda, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Tajikistan; Colonel General Andrei Serdyukov, Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff; Taalatbek Masadykov, Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO, as well as representatives from defense agencies of member states, the CSTO Joint Staff, and the CSTO Secretariat.
