CHARLESTON: Danielle Collins continued her remarkable run, extending her winning streak to 10 matches by securing two victories on Thursday, thus securing her spot in the quarterfinals of the Credit One Charleston (S.C.) Open.

In her first match of the day, Collins caused an upset by defeating second-seeded Ons Jabeur of Tunisia with a scoreline of 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. The match, originally scheduled earlier, was delayed due to rain.

Following her initial triumph, Collins swiftly dispatched Sloane Stephens, another unseeded US player, with a dominant performance of 6-2, 6-2. Notably, Collins, a 30-year-old Floridian who has announced her retirement at the end of the season, recently claimed the Miami Open championship.

Collins is now set to face off against 11th-seeded Elise Mertens of Belgium in her next match. Mertens advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating seventh-seeded Elina Svitolina of Ukraine 6-4, 6-1.

Elsewhere in the tournament, there were notable victories for various players. Jessica Pegula of the United States secured her spot in the quarterfinals with a comfortable 6-2, 6-2 win over Poland’s Magda Linette.

Additionally, Belarus’ Victoria Azarenka, seeded 12th, staged a comeback victory against the United States’ Taylor Townsend, prevailing with a scoreline of 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the quarters.

Other significant results included third-seeded Maria Sakkari of Greece defeating Australia’s Astra Sharma 6-4, 6-1, and fourth-seeded Daria Kasatkina of Russia eliminating 15th-seeded Anhelina Kalinina of Ukraine with a scoreline of 6-1, 6-4.

Furthermore, ninth-seeded Veronika Kudermetova of Russia emerged victorious against fifth-seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil, winning 7-5, 6-1, while Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian beat 10th-seeded Emma Navarro of the United States in a closely contested match with a score of 6-3, 5-7, 6-1.

As for the Copa Colsanitas tournament in Bogota, Colombia, sixth-seeded Camila Osorio advanced to the quarterfinals with a hard-fought 7-6 (4), 6-4 victory over Romania’s Anca Alexia Todoni. Despite struggling with eight double faults, Osorio capitalized on her return points to secure the win, while Todoni’s low first serve percentage hindered her chances.

Unfortunately, the remaining matches scheduled for Thursday were postponed due to a power failure, adding a twist to the tournament’s proceedings.
