KARACHI: The death anniversary of prominent Pakistani musician and sarangi player Ustad Bundu Khan is being observed today (Saturday). Born in Delhi to a family of musicians in 1880, he began playing when he was just eight-year-old.

Ustad Bundu Khan graced the airwaves with his sarangi melodies on All India Radio, which commenced broadcasting in 1935.

Having mastered over 500 Ragas, he not only showcased his musical expertise but also earned recognition as a musical theorist. His written work on music, published simultaneously in Urdu and Hindi, stands testament to his scholarly contributions.

Following the partition, Ustad Bundu Khan relocated to Karachi and affiliated himself with Radio Pakistan. His legacy extends beyond his instrumental proficiency, as he continued to enchant audiences through radio broadcasts until his demise on January 13, 1955.
