Death Anniversary of Qawwali Maestro Ghulam Farid Sabri Being Observed

LAHORE: The 30th death anniversary of Qawwali maestro Ghulam Farid Sabri is being observed today.

Ghulam Farid Sabri, popularly known as one half of the Sabri Brothers alongside his brother Maqbool Sabri, achieved great fame in the world of Qawwali. Some of their most celebrated Qawwalis include “Mera Koi Nahin Hai Tere Siwa”, “Bhardo Jholi Meri Ya Muhammad”, and “Taajdar-e-Haram”.

Ghulam Farid Sabri, who received his earlier musical training from his father Ustad Inayat Sen Sabri, embarked on his musical journey at the age of 11 and swiftly rose to prominence in the realm of Qawwali. Alongside his younger brother, he dominated the Qawwali scene throughout the 70s and 80s.

Having recorded his debut Qawwali in 1958, their rendition of ‘Tajdar Haram’ in 1975 instantly captivated audiences and sustained their fame for years to come. Their audio cassettes flew off the shelves, and they also contributed to Qawwalis for films such as Ishq Habib, Chand Sooraj, Ilzaam, Bin Badal Barsat, and Sachai.

Ghulam Farid Sabri’s voice enchanted listeners not only in Pakistan but also across the globe.

He left this world on April 5, 1994, following a prolonged illness, leaving behind a profound musical legacy that continues to inspire and stir people to this day.
