Death Anniversary of Renowned Comedian Rangeela Today

ISLAMABAD: The 18th death anniversary of comedian, film actor, and singer Rangeela is being observed on Wednesday (today).

Rangeela’s real name was Muhammad Saeed Khan, and he was born in Parachimar on January 1, 1937.

He was a child when his family migrated to Peshawar. Later, at a young age, Rangeela moved to Lahore and started painting billboards for the Pakistani film industry to earn his livelihood.

By chance, Rangeela was invited to fill in for an absent comedian on set when he was 20 years old. At 21, he made his acting debut in the Punjabi feature film “Jatti” (1958). From then on, he never looked back and quickly became one of Lollywood’s most in-demand comedians.

He established Rangeela Productions and showed his range of abilities by producing the 1969 film “Diya aur Toofan.” His breakthrough songs as a performer were the hits “Ga Murray manhwa gata jay.” Rangeela portrayed three characters in “Parda Na Uthao” with skill. Insaan aur Gadha, a political satire, helped him establish himself as a writer.

The actor worked in over 300 films and is known as the king of comedy in Pakistan and worked for around four decades in the entertainment industry.

Moreover, Rangeela received several awards for his services to the film industry, including the President’s Pride of Performance, in 2005 for excellence in cinema. He died on this day in 2005 at the age of 68.
