ABU DHABI:  : Ireland’s cricket captain, Laura Delany, is gearing up for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in Abu Dhabi, aiming to propel her team in gaining a place in Bangladesh for the main tournament later this year.

Despite Ireland’s past struggles in the T20 World Cup, Delany is optimistic, backed by a talented squad including standout players like Gaby Lewis and Orla Prendergast. For Delany, success in this tournament not only means a shot at glory but also a chance to elevate the visibility of women’s cricket back home, potentially garnering more TV coverage and wider audience interest.

However, a recent loss to Scotland in a warm-up match serves as a wake-up call for Ireland, prompting Delany to urge her team to step up their game, starting with their upcoming clash against the USA. With matches against other tough opponents on the horizon, Delany stresses the importance of taking it one game at a time and maintaining focus on immediate challenges rather than getting ahead of themselves.
