Denmark to Establish Wastewater Treatment Plan in Pakistan

FAISALABAD: Denmark Ambassador to Pakistan Jakob Linulf held a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Nayyar Sheikh at his office in Faisalabad on Wednesday. They discussed a wastewater treatment plant project slated for installation in the eastern part of the city with Denmark’s support.

Accompanying Ambassador Linulf were the Managing Director of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Amir Aziz, Muhammad Aslam from the Trade Council for the Denmark Embassy, Deputy Managing Director and Project Director Saqib Raza, alongside other officials.

Expressing the importance of the project, Ambassador Linulf highlighted the collaborative efforts between Pakistan and Denmark towards the construction of a 44-million-gallon wastewater treatment plant. He emphasized its significance in addressing environmental pollution, crucial for the city’s development.

DC Abdullah Nayyar Sheikh echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the imminent construction of a water treatment plant in Faisalabad as a result of the project. He underscored its positive impact on the city’s environment and mentioned the reduction of pollution on River Ravi, with treated water being suitable for irrigation purposes.

Amir Aziz, MD of WASA, emphasized WASA Faisalabad’s role as the first water and sanitation agency in Punjab to be selected for financing the wastewater treatment plant construction by DSIF.

Project Director Saqib Raza emphasized the project’s significance, with an estimated value exceeding Rs 19 billion, slated for completion within four years.
