Dina Shihabi’s Latest Film “Catching Dust” Set to Premiere at Tribeca Film Festival

DUBAI: Renowned part-Saudi actress Dina Shihabi recently took to social media to announce her upcoming film, “Catching Dust,” which is scheduled to premiere at the esteemed Tribeca Film Festival in New York on June 11.

Directed by Stuart Gatt, the 96-minute feature showcases Shihabi as one of the film’s stars, alongside talented actors Erin Moriarty, Jai Courtney, and Ryan Corr. “Catching Dust” revolves around Geena, portrayed by Erin Moriarty, an artist and painter who yearns for bigger dreams and grows weary of her controlling partner while residing in the desert.

Just as Geena reaches her breaking point and prepares to leave, a new couple arrives at the commune in a trailer from New York, seeking a fresh start away from the city. However, tensions quickly escalate, egos clash, and both couples find themselves entangled in a perilous situation as their attempts to connect result in frayed relationships and imminent disaster.

Amidst her film endeavors, Dina Shihabi has a busy summer ahead, with the premiere of her latest series, “Painkiller,” scheduled to release on Netflix on August 10. The series delves into the origins and aftermath of America’s opioid epidemic, shedding light on this pressing issue. Shihabi stars alongside esteemed actors Matthew Broderick, Uzo Aduba, and Taylor Kitsch in this gripping miniseries, based on the book “Pain Killer: An Empire of Deceit and the Origin of America’s Opioid Epidemic” by Barry Meier, as well as a New Yorker article titled “The Family That Built an Empire of Pain” by Patrick Radden Keefe.

Dina Shihabi’s Early Life and Career

Dina Shihabi, born in Riyadh, spent part of her childhood in Dubai. She relocated to the United States in 2007 and made history as the first Middle Eastern-born woman to be accepted into the Juilliard School and New York University graduate acting program. While she began her acting career with short films in 2010, her breakthrough role came in 2017 as Hanin in the acclaimed series “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan.”

In an interview with Arab News, Shihabi shared valuable advice for aspiring actors, emphasizing the importance of surrounding oneself with like-minded individuals and creating opportunities.
